One night in NYC

by Adrienne Doss on May 6, 2007

I made it back from New York City with blisters on my feet, aching legs and a camera full of photos.

Church Near Central ParkI flew in Tuesday night, ordered room service and spent the night in bed. The next morning, I attended the ClickZ Web Metrics conference. (I’ll let you know what I learned in a separate post.) Wednesday night was the only time I would have to see the city, so I put on some sturdy shoes, grabbed my camera and headed out to explore Manhattan.

In just five hours, I managed to see Central Park, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Julliard School, Radio City Music Hall, the Ed Sullivan Theater, Madame Tussaud’s wax museum, Times Square, the New York Public Library, Grand Central Station, St. Patrick’s Cathedral … so many places I have trouble remembering them all. Everywhere I turned, there was something amazing to see. Most places were closed by the time I got there, but the Rockefeller Center was still open, so I took the elevator to the top and saw the city from the 70th floor.

Times Square Ad JungleBy 11:30 p.m. I was losing steam, so I stopped in a bar called Lucky’s for a Guinness and a breather. Then I headed back toward the Wellington Hotel to call it a night, but I couldn’t resist stopping in a little Irish pub for another Guinness and a shot of Bailey’s. I spent the next couple of hours hanging out with a couple of bankers from Dublin. After debating the merits of Whitesnake (yikes) and fending off the drunken advances of Fingers McGrabbyhands, I finally limped back to my hotel room and promptly collapsed into bed.

A big thanks to everyone who gave me advice on where to go and what to see! Another hearty thanks goes out to all the friendly, helpful New Yorkers who welcomed me into their hometown and pointed me in the right direction when I got off track.

Thanks for sharing!
